Philodendron 'White Princess' in Ribbed Foot Pot
White Princess is a stunning new cultivar with new leaves producing random patterns of white splashes. They are well suited for indoors as they grow well in low light and are great for pots and larger planters. When small they make amazing plants in terrariums and with a heavy cutting back they can be kept small and compact for years. To keep a plant compact it must be allowed to grow to a reasonable size and the central growth must be removed; this will force the plant to cluster with much smaller plantlets. This can be done every year or two.

Mixed lettuce
Lettuce mix is a selection of leafy varieites including mignonette, cos and butterhead types.
Lettuce is a cool season vegie, meaning they prefer to be planted in cooler weather, for super salad success. Remembering that lettuces are cool season greens, it is recommended that you plant them in partially shaded spots in your patch, particularly if you experience hot summers. Consider using some other vegies like beans and sweet corn as ‘living shade’.

Lettuces are a hungry vegie, and need to be grown quickly for best flavour and appearance. A well prepared bed of  soil with compost / manure with aid in the growth and resilience of your lettuce. Occasionally feed with a liquid fertiliser such as maxicrop.

Watering is vital, as lettuces have shallow roots and thus need frequent watering, especially in hot and/or windy weather. Keep the area well mulched and test soil moisture regularly. If soil is left to dry out, lettuce may run to seed, taste bitter or die.

One Tree Per Child
Celebrate the run up to National Tree Day on July 28th by planting a tree with your child!

The aim of One Tree Per Child is to get every child to plant at least one tree before they leave school.
Founded by Olivia Newton-John and Jon Dee, One Tree Per Child has planted trees in 10 countries. We have already planted hundreds of thousands of trees and shrubs.

As a child grows, so does their tree. This connection between the child and their tree leads to increased environmental awareness and care.
Planting a tree is often a child’s first act of volunteering for their community
Tree planting gives children ‘a sense of belonging’. When they’re planting a tree or a shrub, the child is literally putting down roots in their community.
Psychological research shows a correlation between childhood contact with nature and better mental health.
Planting a tree empowers children into realising that they can make a personal difference for wildlife, our soil and the environment.
When a child’s tree grows, it also increases its beneficial contribution to wildlife, our soil and the environment. The tree can also provide shade.

Is your lemon tree covered in scale insects ?
Take a close look. You're not alone!

Eco-pest oil is an easy, safe and organic way to kill scale insect on citrus and other edible plants. Spray thoroughly so the oil smothers all of the insects.

To fully get rid of scale, you will also need to get rid of any ants you may have in the area, as they will reintroduce scale to your tree - they actually farm scale as a food source! Spray-on ant killer is great for immediately knocking off the ants on the tree, while ant kill granules are used to kill off their nest.
