A new introduction by Fleming's Nurseries, Cercis 'Merlot' is a great small garden tree with rich purple foliage and improved branch structure. Large heart-shaped very glossy foliage. Rich purple to plum colour. Will withstand heat in summer. Bright lavender-pink 'pea' type flowers in spring for a showy display.

Cyclamen thrive in a bright location that is protected from hot sun. Water regularly and allow potting media to dry out slightly between waterings. Cool to cold locations will extend flowering period and keep plant healthy. Remove old flowers from bulb base with a gentle twist. Apply liquid fertiliser on a monthly basis while plant is growing. Plant may become dormant over summer.
Pair the beautiful fairy-wing flowers with a decorative pot and a funky fungi decoration!
Loose and Packet Spring Bulbs are NOW IN Hyacinth, Jonquil, Daffodils, Ranunculus and more. Available loose, or in packets. Once you have them you will always have them, rewarding you with more bulbs as they divide under the ground. Also suitable in pots if you only have a small space. Nothing brings cheer like their heads popping up and then flowers opening to signify springtime and warmer days to come.
Fun facts about bulbs! Spring bulbs store energy underground to help them through hard times, before shooting up when conditions are right. That papery covering you can see on the outside is called a ‘tunic’ (cute name, right?) and covers the scales (the main fleshy bit like the layers of an onion - also a bulb!). The fibrous stringy bits on the base are the roots and should be planted downwards. The roots come out of the basal plate, a part which connects everything together, and from which the flower bud will shoot up and out the top, reaching for the sun. This is when the magic really happens.
Spring onions are fast and easy to grow, so they’re great for beginners and perfect for squeezing into small spaces. It’s their sweet and mild flavour that makes them ideal for fast cooking or garnishing dishes. Add them to scrambled eggs for a subtle onion flavour, chop them into matchstick lengths for quick stir fries or finely diced they can be used as a garnish on nearly everything.
When planting out seedlings it’s easiest to make a shallow furrow and lay the seedlings into it spaced 2-4cm apart. You can then quickly backfill by running your hand down one side pushing soil over the roots. Don’t worry if the seedings aren’t standing upright as they will correct themselves as they establish.
Spring onions will also grow well in pots or containers. Choose a pot that is at least 15cm deep and allows for good drainage. Watch them during hot weather as potted plants will dry out faster and need more frequent watering than those growing in beds.
Spring onions can be harvested 8-10 weeks after sowing seeds or once the plants are roughly the thickness of a pencil. In the cooler months they will grow more slowly and may reach harvesting size in 12-14 weeks.
When ready to harvest you can either pull the plant completely out of the ground, harvesting it all OR cut the shoot off about 1cm above ground level. The remaining stump will then reshoot giving you'll a continual crop.
