Autumn is my favourite season. Fresh mornings and little wind. It’s the season of calm. Here is one of my favourite autumn combos that highlights the golden daze.
ACER PALMATUM 'SANGO KAKU'
Coral Bark Maple is a deciduous tree with superb autumn and winter colour. This tree has attractive double serrated leaves with five to nine lobes. They are green in colour during Spring and then turn a bright yellow with an orange tinge at Autumn. The striking bark turns a brighter red in winter providing colour throughout the year. Plant in morning sun/semi-shade and protect from summer afternoon sun. Water well on hot windy days.
A wonderful feature tree 5mx5m or small if planted in large containers.
Lily of the valley plant, Pieris ‘Temple Bells’ offers a unique flower and foliage display. An elegant slow growing evergreen shrub with growth a bronze-red colour, turning to an attractive glossy dark green when older. Clusters of light pink buds open to gorgeous white bell shaped flowers in winter.
Prefers a part shade position protected from the afternoon sun. Deadhead spent flowers with a light prune after flowering. Height to 1.5mx 1.5m
Peach Flambé is an easy to grow foliage plant that provides interest for most of the year, with colourful leaves and dainty sprays of flowers in early summer. Excellent for using in containers to add something special to summer and winter planting schemes. This vibrant ground cover lightens up a shady area and is perfect for underplanting trees and larger shrubs as it grows 30x50 cm
A beautiful bird attracting native that is free-branching and flowers prolifically. Features masses of large red, yellow, pink, burgandy, blue or black flowers depending on variety. Kangaroo paws are suitable for containers or a sunny, well drained area in the garden. Kangaroo paws are fairly drought tolerant so can be left alone if needed, especially in the winter months.
This distinctive indoor is a clumping variety of the regular Monstera adansonii, producing oval-shaped fenestrations in the leaves. Monstera adansonii requires bright, indirect light, but it will also tolerate lower light conditions. Allow soil to dry out slightly between watering, water more in summer and less in winter. Fertilise more in warmer months to boost growth. A great gift or addition to a shelf, desk or bedside table paired with this cute daisy pot!
Position in a bright room away from direct sunlight. Water when soil feels dry, and water and fertilise more frequently in the warmer months.
Finger Limes Add a little ZING and grow your own!
Microcitrus australiasica or Australian Finger Limes are an evergreen tree with small green leaves and creamy blooms, followed by fruit that have destinctive coloured flesh and a caviar-like appearance and a tangy taste. Flesh colour depends on variety, with Crystal, Pink Ice & Red Champagne each offering unique interest.
