LEUCOPHYTA 'SILVER NUGGET' This very compact form of the Silver Cushion Bush from the West Coast of Tasmania is extremely hardy in most garden situations, growing only to 30cm x 30cm. It makes a striking contrast in any garden situation with its silver foliage and tiny yellow button flowers in spring/summer. For best results feed in spring with a long term slow release fertiliser.
BRACTEANTHA 'GARNET' During trials Bracteantha Elite Garnet proved to be one of the most compact varieties and covered itself with profuse flushes of papery deep red blooms. The flowers lasted for months. Full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Best flowering is from September to May but Elite Garnet will flower continuously if trimmed after a flush is completed. Ideal for garden borders, pots and mixed planters or mixed with other colours in the Elite range in your garden beds. Flowers can be cut and dried for small posies. Adequately water until established, then Elite Garnet is tolerant of dry periods. In the cooler months, it is important that Bracteantha are kept a little drier and in well-drained soil. When Elite Garnet has finished a flush, trim to shape and it will re-flower quickly. Avoid pruning during the cold months in fact keep as much foliage on as possible and wait until the warmer weather. Fertilise seasonally with organic fertiliser.

Over spring the shrub will be covered in bright yellow pea-like flowers that arch delicately on long sprays. They grow wonderfully in garden beds or pots and are well suited to coastal gardens. A very attractive form of Alocasia producing beautiful ornate leaves up to 20cm long and fully grown at 40cm. Its highly textured leaves resemble what some think dragon scales might look like. They are well suited for indoors as they require warmer conditions. With a little pruning they can be kept small and compact for years. To keep a plant compact it must be allowed to grow to a reasonable size and the central growth must be removed; this will force the plant to cluster with much smaller plantlets. This can be done every year or two.
