Nothing brings cheer like their heads popping up and then flowers opening to signify springtime and warmer days to come.
Fun facts about bulbs! Spring bulbs store energy underground to help them through hard times, before shooting up when conditions are right. That papery covering you can see on the outside is called a ‘tunic’ (cute name, right?) and covers the scales (the main fleshy bit like the layers of an onion - also a bulb!). The fibrous stringy bits on the base are the roots and should be planted downwards. The roots come out of the basal plate, a part which connects everything together, and from which the flower bud will shoot up and out the top, reaching for the sun. This is when the magic really happens.
