Feijoa (Acca sellowiana)
Hardy, evergreen, medium-tall shrub with leathery leaves and clusters of red flowers. Heavy crops of bright green fruit are produced in autumn.
Ideal for hedges and screens even in coastal aereas. The sweet fruit can be eaten raw or used for jam, jellies and chutney.
Feijoa trees usually fruit 2-3 years after planting, and should be fed regularly from spring to late summer to ensure a healthy tree and bumper harvest. It’s important to provide a balance of Nitrogen (N, for leafy growth), Phosphorus (P, for root development) and Potassium (K, for flowering and fruit production). Best to use fruit and citrus food to promote lots of flowers.
A hardy plant which prefers a sunny position in well drained soil. Deep watering during warm season improves fruit quality.
Height 4m x 1.5-2m wide
