Calathea makoyana or the Peacock plant is a species of plant belonging to the genus Calathea in the family Marantaceae, native to eastern Brazil. Calathea has round pale green leaves, the upper surfaces marked with dark green blotches along the veins, and the lower surfaces coloured deep purple. Position in a bright spot indoors and allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering.
A most striking plant grown for its upright, fleshy, sword-shaped leaves. The dark green leaves are banded with grey-green and have a broad yellow margin.
Ideal for creating a tropical effect in shady positions in warm climates. Well suited to containers and pots on patios and indoors.
Grow outdoors in a dappled shade position and indoors in a brightly lit position in well drained soil. Benefits from summer watering and an occasional application of liquid fertiliser.

A joyful addition to any garden especially as it is in full bloom in late winter when the garden can look uninspiring.

LIRIOPE 'ROYAL PURPLE'
Liriope Royal Purple has vivid purple flowers that sit above snappy foliage in the autumn. A bit like the flower structure of lavender, they are an ideal ground cover and border plant that are tolerant of sun and shade. Also great for underplanting and look fantastic with other glossy leaf plants and can be divided over time to produce multiple of plants.

A quick growing, flavoursome vegetable producing crisp, edible white flower heads.
Choose a sunny position, protected from strong winds. When sowing seedlings, leave about 40cm between each plant.
Cauliflowers can be a bit fussy about their soil, so take a bit of time to prepare the bed. Ensure a well-drained soil, chock full of compost from your own heap or pure magic compost and organic matter, as well as a light application of chook poo based fertiliser pellets such as organic pelletised fertiliser when preparing the bed.
To minimise the risk of pests and diseases taking hold, ensure they are
not planted into a bed that has had cabbages, broccoli, brussel sprouts or other members of the Brassiacea family within the last three years.
Feed your cauliflower weekly with a seaweed liquid fertiliser such as Maxicrop, especially in the month leading up to harvest. As heads appear, a drink of maxicrop will improve size and shape of the heads.
