Cardamom is so versitile. It can be an indoor plant or in a shady spot outside. If you want to produce a special meal try poaching fish or chicken in your favorite Thai recipe. Wrap the meat in parcels with one leaf and secure with a bamboo skew. Remove (discard) the leaf after cooking the appropriate time for your meat portion. The meat will be infused with the Cardamon leaf flavor. Cardamom can produce amazing flowers and seed pots which of course can also be used in cooking, though it is extremely unlikely in Melbourne. Cardamom is a clumping plant with between 10 and 20 leafy shoots arising from the rhizome. Mine grows almost like a weed down my shady side garden. The shoots are actually pseudostems composed of overlapping leaf sheaths. There are several additional flowering shoots. The leaves are lanceolate and dark green in color. Cardamom can reach a height of 5 m (16.4 ft) and has an economic lifespan of 10-15 years. Cardamom may also be referred to as green cardamom, black cardamom, brown cardamom, red cardamom or white cardamom and originates from southern India and Sri Lanka.
