Tom's Indoor Combo of the Week!
Calathea 'White Cloud' in Franklin Tub White Cloud is a stunning cultivar that is well-suited for indoor gardens and terrariums due to its hardiness and ability to thrive in low light. Its slow growth rate means it requires little maintenance and can be kept small and compact for extended periods, making it ideal for small spaces. When grown in pots, it should be watered well but allowed to almost dry out between watering, while in terrariums it should be watered sparingly. It can be placed in indirect sunlight or provided with artificial light but should be kept away from heaters and draughty areas.Calathea ornata cannot survive in cold outdoor climates and should be kept on the dryer side during winter.
A dynamo in the garden with flowers galore. The upright stems of indigo blue flowers can, with a bit of light pruning, repeat into autumn. It is a wonderful border/bedding plant and also works well in containers (where it will be more compact).
The foliage forms a dense, tidy mound below the blooms. It is a condensed and better behaved form of the legendary Salvia 'Indigo Spires' which has been hugely popular around the world for many years.
Salvia ‘Mystic Spires Blue’ is a well branched, tough and hardy. Grows best in full sun with a well drained soil; drainage is especially important over a wet winter. Once established it is quite dry tolerant. Pinch out the spent blooms to keep it blooming and encourage a dense habit. As it goes into winter dormancy it can be pruned back to 20cm to make way for the new growth.
Salvia ‘Mystic Spires Blue’ is compact plant so suitable for pots.
A half hardy perennial with green serrated foliage that has its own unique aroma. Has a spicy (Basil x Coriander x Anise x Cinnamon x grass) flavour that gives layers of fragrance to lightly cooked Asian dishes. To best enjoy the taste it should be used raw or added just after removing from the heat. The most common use is the leaf but seeds and flower buds have their own particular flavours. It is also popular in Chinese medicine for colds and flu.
Prefers well drained sunny position in the garden or in large pots. Will grow in most soil types and needs regular feeding and watering during summer. Frost sensitive and best treated as an annual in colder areas. Will self seed if allowed to flower.
