Tough As Nails Flowers and Foliage!

BRACTEANTHA 'AMBER'
Bracteantha Elite Amber proved in trials to be one of the most compact varieties and covered itself with profuse flushes of papery deep orange blooms. The flowers lasted for months, with best flowering from September to May, but Elite Amber will flower continuously if trimmed after a flush is completed. Ideal for garden borders, pots and mixed planters or mixed with other colours in the Elite range in your garden beds. Flowers can be cut and dried for small posies. When Elite Amber has finished a flush or looks tatty, don't hesitate to shear to shape and it will re-flower quickly. Avoid pruning during the cold months in fact keep as much foliage on as possible and wait until the warmer weather. Fertilise seasonally with organic fertiliser.
Full sun to part shade, well-drained soil, Elite Amber hates wet feet!

Mercy's Indoor Combo of the Week!

Calathea makoyana in Hippy Planter

Round pale green leaves with dark green blotches along the veins and a deep purple underneath. Position near bright, indirect light in a peat based potting mix which is free draining.

Water when soil feels dry or plant starts to droop, keeping soil moist but not wet, watering more in summer and less in winter.
Fertilise regularly during the growing season. Avoid direct sun as it will dull the colours of the leaves.

☀️ Spring Bulbs Are NOW IN! ☀️

Hyacinth, Jonquil, Daffodils, Ranunculus and more. Available loose, in packets, or in these cute little santa’s sacks. Once you have them you will always have them, rewarding you with more bulbs as they divide under the ground. Also suitable in pots if you only have a small space. Nothing brings cheer like their heads popping up and then flowers opening to signify springtime and warmer days to come.

Fun facts about bulbs! Spring bulbs store energy underground to help them through hard times, before shooting up when conditions are right. That papery covering you can see on the outside is called a ‘tunic’ (cute name, right?) and covers the scales (the main fleshy bit like the layers of an onion - also a bulb!).

The fibrous stringy bits on the base are the roots and should be planted downwards. The roots come out of the basal plate, a part which connects everything together, and from which the flower bud will shoot up and out the top, reaching for the sun. This is when the magic really happens. If you zoom in on the picture of Purple Hyacinth you can just start to see some green bits sprouting out from the top.
