Grows in most soil types providing surface drainage is good. Prefers full sun and is both drought and light frost tolerant.
Water well during the hot, dry months. Remove spent flowers to encourage further flushes.

LEUCADENDRON VARIETIES

Originating from South Africa, Leucadendrons have adapted well to Australian conditions. Foliage is usually elliptical with the occasional needle-like variety. Most often it is green with a dense covering of silvery hairs. Flowers are actually bracts and are produced at the tips of the branches. Attractive cone heads are the centre point of the display and come in an incredible range
Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic soil in an open, sunny position. If drainage is poor, plant on a sloping bank or raised bed. Improve poor soil by digging in organic material.

CHRYSOCEPHALUM 'SILVER SUNBURST'
Silver Sunburst is a selected form of Chrysocephalum apiculatum which produces an abundance of dainty bright golden button flowers in clusters above the broad silver foliage from spring to early summer.

Grows best in full sun and will tolerate part shade. It is adaptable to most well drained moist soils, and requires summer watering when conditions are very dry, will tolerate light frost. Ideal for rockery plantings and can be used along pathways to create a colourful low level border.
It is best to initially feed with a slow release low phosphorus fertiliser to help establish the plant. It is beneficial to follow up with the occasional reapplication of fertiliser and apply as required. Mulching around the base of the plant will help retain moisture and suppress weeds. This plant requires little maintenance other than the removal of spent flowers.

Jacqui's Indoor Pick of the Week!
Rhipsalis in Florabelle Planter

Rhipsalis, also known as mistletoe cactus, is a unique group of epiphytic cacti, native to tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Unlike most cacti, Rhipsalis thrives in shady, humid environments and has slender, cascading stems that make them perfect for hanging pots. Easy to care for, Rhipsalis prefers bright, indirect light, well-draining soil, and occasional watering—allowing the top layer to dry out between drinks. It’s a great choice for adding soft, sculptural greenery indoors.

Martin's Edible Pick of the Week
Artichoke - Globe
A popular and easy to grow, thistle-like perennial with edible flower buds.
Globe Artichokes are large thistle plants native to the Mediterranean, cultivated as a delicious food source. The plant itself has beautiful foliage, with large deeply lobed silvery green leaves which can be a stunning feature in both vegetable and ornamental gardens.

Globe artichokes require full sun and good drainage to prevent the roots rotting. They are heavy feeders and grow beautifully with plenty of Organic Cow Manure and Pure Magic Compost. Regular watering is important if you want big tender delicious buds. Heavy frost can toughen or damage developing buds.

As well as their wonderful taste, globe artichokes are an excellent source of potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants.
