Bright and white this week! The heat of summer has finally arrived and these varieties will love this hot weather. It’s a great idea to get out in the garden early and enjoy some planting, watering or maintenance before the heat of the day.
HIBISCUS 'RIO SHABBY CHIC' Rio Clara Hibiscus have been bred for their extra large vibrant flowers and attractive dark green glossy foliage. Tropical flowers are on show throughout the warmer months on a compact, well branched plant. Plant in moist, well drained soil in a sunny position. Ideal for large patio pots, garden borders and also makes a showy garden hedge or screen. Prune well and fertilise regularly to maintain shape and promote new growth.
Agapanthus ‘Snowball’ is a compact, clump-forming African lily prized for its pristine white flower heads and excellent performance through the heat of summer. From early to mid-summer, it produces perfectly rounded, snow-white flowers above neat, strappy green foliage. The blooms are long-lasting and make a striking contrast in borders, containers, and coastal or contemporary garden designs.
Exceptionally summer hardy, ‘Snowball’ thrives in full sun and warm conditions, maintaining strong growth, clean foliage, and reliable flowering even during prolonged heat. It is drought tolerant once established and well suited to low-maintenance plantings, making it ideal for patios, terraces, and mass displays in sunny landscapes.
We are a huge ‘fans’ of Scaevola! These gorgeous little evergreen plants are easy to care for and seem to flower forever -- well at least from spring to autumn. The bushy foliage of 'Fairy White' forms a neat clump around 25cm creating a stunning boarder. Scaevola are native to Australia’s east coast and thrive in a variety of conditions. They are a great choice if you are looking to encourage birds and beneficial insects in your garden. They are dry tolerant once established and require well drained soil. The plants are super low maintenance, simply dead-head to encourage more flowering.
Ever Popular Marguerite Daisies are perfect for the Australian climate with excellent tolerance to extreme weather conditions and diseases, Exceptionally vigorous. strong and quick to grow, your plant will quickly create a sea of red in your garden. Use in garden beds, background planting, borders and rock gardens. Abundant flowering with single deep rod flowers. Lightly trim after flowering, and liquid fertilise regularly to enhance repeat flowering.
An amazing, super hardy indoor plant able to survive in any well-lit area indoors with or without heating. Plants form upright stems up to 40cm tall and cluster from the base. Plants will survive periods of dryness and will recover even if wilted. Position indoors, watering all year round with fastest growth in the spring period. Plants will survive without water for short periods. Note that plants should be allowed to dry out between waterings in winter. Feed with any liquid fertiliser monthly in growing period. Can be left to overgrow their pots, sometimes with dramatic effect. Repot at any time of the year into almost any well drained potting mix.
All cumquats are self-fertile, evergreen and will grow happily in either full sun or part-shade. They are also very cold tolerant. Soon after the fragrant, white flowers appear they produce ornamental fruit which stay on the tree for a long period. The fruit can be used for liqueurs, preserves, marmalades, drinks and bottling. All cumquat varieties are excellent for containers, screening, espalier and standards.

Calamansi A thin skinned, juicy fruit that is deliciously sharp tasting and tangy. Grows upto 4 metres
Nagami A small, elegant plant that can grow to around 3m x 3m. Remains slightly smaller in pots. A variegated form is also available. The fruit is small and oval shaped with a thin skin and it is very juicy and only slightly acidic. The only cumquat variety suitable for eating fresh off the tree. The skin is also edible.
Calamondin Variegated Calamondins are a cross between cumquats and mandarins. They have loose bright orange skins and can be made into delicious marmalade, candied or used in liquers. The variegated form has lovely cream/green foliage. Young fruit is pale green with dark stripes. H 4 x 2.5m
