FABULOUS FLOWERS !
CREPE MYRTLE - LAGERSTROEMIA 'TUSCARORA'

I love a good naming story. Part of the Indian Summer Range, Tuscarora, is named after an Indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands in Canada and the United States. It's the hottest pink of the Crepe Myrtles, so named for the elegant clusters of blooms that resemble crinkled crepe paper which are on display for many summer months. Crepe Myrtles are the best. Beautiful flowers, bark and fabulous autumn foliage colour. Ideal feature tree even for the smallest garden.
EXPERT TIP :We prune ours hard every winter to stimulate new spring growth which leads to more flower shoots.

HYDRANGEA 'SUNDAE FRAISE'
Sundae Fraise Hydrangea are a deciduous rounded shrub with an abundance of flowers right now and will continue all they way through Autumn. Juvenile flowers are generally green and white, whereas mature flowers display a variety of pink hues, ranging from soft pink to vibrant hot pink. Hence the name Fraise which is a French word for strawberry.
These delightful hydrangeas offer vibrant colour for entertainment areas in large containers as well as mid level planting in gardens. It is currently creating a beautiful display around our central path fountain and you can see it on mass at MIFGS at the Royal Exhibition Building this weekend.

Tom's Indoor Combo of the Week!

Tillandsia cyanea in Swirled Ceramic Pot

Touted as the best form of Tilandsia cyanea ever produced; flower bracts last up to 6 months in colour and produce 5cm blue flowers over a 6 week period.
Best kept indoors or protected outdoors out of winter rain. Tillandsia will grow well but will not flower if kept in dark.
Water when almost dry on foliage and soil, weak fertiliser over warmer months. After flowering old bracts can be removed, new plants will then form and these can flower the following year.

Salvia 'Electric Pink'
Salvia Elite Electric Pink will thrive in the summer heat. During trials, it continually pushed up strong flowers of a stunning electric blue throughout the warmer months. It was long flowering and covered the ground with lush follage.
Position in full sun to part shade. Best flowering is spring through to late autumn.
Ideal for garden borders, pots or mixed with other colours in the Elite range in your garden beds.
Adequate watering until established, then Electric Pink can tolerate dry periods, but performs best with regular drip irrigation.
Remove spent blooms to promote new flowers. Keep drier during the cooler months and give them a good prune in early spring once warmer weather is imminent. Fertilise seasonally with organic fertiliser.

Martin's Edible Pick of the Week

Brussels Sprout

A traditional leafy green vegetable that is loved by many but due to poor cooking history is not so popular with the kids. They have tight green buds with a strong cabbage-like flavour.
Brussels partner with all other root and leafy green vegies either baked, steamed or friend. Flavour is best when slightly under cooked but still not soft. Serve with butter and/or lemon juice.

For maximum health benefits do not overcook. They make a great side dish tossed in the wok with some garlic , oregano and lemon juice. They are also excellent lightly steamed.

Prefers and airy open position with plenty of sun , avoid heavier frosts. To get the best out of your brussels feed regularly with Maxicrop Seaweed Fertiliser. Harvest at 3- 6 months
