SYRINGA VULGARIS 'BLUE HYACINTH' Lilacs are a very fragrant, small to medium deciduous tree. Purple-pink buds open to attractive purple flowers that fade to a soft mauve-blue in Spring. Plant in full sun a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union approximately 5 to 10cm BELOW the soil level. This way it will produce multiple stems which creates bushy growth and more flowers. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established.Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. We recommend Rose Fertiliser to promote flowers. Prune to shape if necessary. A vigorous, evergreen climber with glossy dark green leaves, with large clusters of highly fragrant, white star-shaped flowers appearing in spring and open from pink buds. Use to provide quick cover for fences, walls, old sheds and garages. The fragrant flowers can be used for indoor decoration. Thrives in a sunny to partly shaded position in most soils. This is a very vigorous climber so pruning heavily immediately after flowering will help contain its growth.
The Spider Web Plant is an indoor variety of Farsi’s Japonica known for its striking variegated foliage with white splashes and speckles on the dark green leaves that resemble a spiders web. This plant thrives in bright , indirect light and prefers a moist, well draining soil.
Martin's Edible Pick of the Week Tansy A compact, spreading shrub with bright yellow button flowers in late-spring to mid-autumn. Tansy is not a culinary plant, but is an excellent insecticide and companion plant for the home and garden, controlling a wide range of crawling, flying and sucking insects. Plant in selected spots around the veggie garden to attract beneficial insects . Also, the foliage can be used as a deterrent in potpurri and mixed with lavender flowers and placed in sachets in cupboards and drawers.
