SPRING BLOOMS!

Spring has almost sprung and Botanical Creations is full of flowers!

The Camellia japonicas and their hybrids are looking spectacular right now, 'Hari Withers' is an upright, strong growing japonica producing formal double blooms named after its breeder. Deep pink fading to pale pink at edge. With attractive glossy, dark green thick foliage it looks lusciously even with out flowers.

Best in morning sun or part shade, dense shade restricts flowering. Shelter from the hot afternoon sun and wind.  Tip prune after flowering in mid spring. Can be planted under large trees but water well through summer. 4m x 2m

HELLEBORE 'ICE N ROSES ROSE'

Ice 'n' Roses Rose is a compact, medium sized plant with masses of flowers in late winter and early spring. It grows to 50cm wide and 40cm tall. The flowers occur in a central bunch, are outward facing and are a deep pink with pale centres. Hellebores require little effort to keep it performing and growing well. Give regular feeds  autumn to sprint flowers & remove the spent flowers prior to seed set and  any ratty leaves any time.
GROWERS TIP It is not necessary but will give you a better floral display if most of the leaves are trimmed back during late autumn.

BACOPA 'PINK'

Bacopa has simple, rounded flowers and comes in various colours in single and double forms. They bloom for many months, beginning in spring, and are very tolerant of a hot, sunny position, though can also grow in part-shade. They are excellent plants for creating a soft and flowery effect, especially for cascading over walls and baskets. Plant Uses: Vibrant colour ground cover Containers or tubs Hanging baskets General garden use Traditional style gardens Tree/Shrub underplanting

NEW SEASON COLOUR!

Give Peas a Chance
Snow, Snap and Massey Gem Peas

Peas are planted in the cooler seasons,  seedlings can be planted from May to October.

Since peas like slightly alkaline soil, it’s best to prepare the soil a few weeks before planting seedlings by adding a small amount of dolomite or garden lime to the soil, along with some manure or a balanced fertiliser. Mix in some compost to improve drainage if the soil is compacted, as peas don’t like ‘wet feet’, better known as waterlogged roots.

When plants start growing, they will need watering. As peas are susceptible to powdery mildew, it is best to water them early in the day and to water the soil near their roots, without wetting their leaves.

Once the pea plants start producing, pick the pods every day to increase production.
Good companion plants for peas are potatoes, radishes, carrots and turnips.
