SUNSHINE SUMMER
Yellow and red are such bold colours, these will add warmth to the garden long after the summer heat has gone!

Hibiscus 'Rio Sunshine Yellow'

Rio Clara Hibiscus are known for their extra large vibrant flowers and attractive dark green glossy foliage. Tropical flowers are on show throughout the warmer months on compact well branched plants. Plant in moist, well drained soil in a sunny position. Ideal for large patio pots, garden borders and makes a showy garden hedge or screen. Prune well and fertilise regularly to maintain shape and promote new growth.

Salvia 'Cherry Red' 140 mm

Elite Cherry Red outperformed all other varieties in trials, staying in flower throughout the warmer weather, whilst staying bushy. It proved to be a very hardy low growing summer perennial ideal for hot spots in the garden and low water use areas. Position in full sun to part shade. Ideal for garden borders, informal hedging and low maintenance areas of the garden where you want long term colour.
Adequate water until established, then Elite Cherry Red can tolerate dry periods, but will perform best with regular drip irrigation.
Trim to shape as required with hedge shears to remove old blooms and freshen up the plant in the warmer weather. A harder prune can be done or early spring as salvias come out of their winter slumber. Fertilise seasonally with organic fertiliser.

Scaevola 'Elite Blue Wind'
We are a huge ‘fans’ of Scaevola! These gorgeous little evergreen plants are easy care and seem to flower forever, well at least from spring to autumn. Scaevola are native to Australia’s east coast and thrive in a variety of conditions. They are a great choice if you are looking to encourage birds and beneficial insects to your garden. They are dry tolerant once established and require a well drained soil. The plants are super low maintenance and simply dead heading to encourage more flowering.

Tom's Indoor Combo of the Week!

Chain of Hearts in Akua Grass Planter
One of the hardiest of all basket succulents, Chain of Hearts can be grown almost anywhere indoors or out, sunny or dark. Long tendrils can grow a metre or more in a season and fill a pot very fast. Heart shaped leaves appear along the entire length and cute 3cm vase shaped flowers can appear in summer from every leaf.
Large number of potatoes form inside the pot to store food and water so plants can live for many months without water, water well and allow to dry between watering, in winter keep dry. Feed during warmer months to encourage growth. To thicken growth cut back or twirl the vines back into the pot. Avoid breaking up old plants, potatoes will often die if damaged, best to cut back growth and replant into a larger pot making new plants from cuttings.

Pair with a heart pick for some extra Valentine love.

Martin's Edible Pick of the Week

French Tarragon

A must herb for French cooking with a mild aniseed and peppery flavour

An easy to use herb that has a medium aniseed flavour that can leave the tongue feeling a little warm. The leaves must be used as fresh as possible as the flavour dissipates quickly after picking. Pick and use with smoked salmon and cream cheese for a delightful entree.

This small shrub requires a dry, sunny spot in very well drained soil. Needs little fertilising and tolerates limey soils.
