The Dreaded Permanant Wilting Point & How to Rescue Wilted Plants
With the very unpredicatbly cool but then suddenly hot weather we've had over the last few weeks, it's been very easy to accidentally miss watering potted plants.
Is your plant at the permanent wilting point or can it be saved? Once a plant reaches it's permanant wilting point, the plant's cells lose all rigidity and collapse, and will fail to recover The good thing is, some plants do bounce back if they haven't been wilted for too long.
If your plant has wilted dramatically, the soil will be extremely dry and even hydrophobic (water repellant).
The first step to trying to revive your plant is to add a wetting agent like Rapid Soak to the surface of the soil so that water is able to be absorbed properly.
Next, place your plant into a bucket or sealed container and water through the top of the pot with a solution of Maxicrop. Keep adding water to the plant pot until there is a few centimetres of water sitting under the pot.
Leave to soak for an hour or so, then remove from the bucket to let drain.
If your plant hasn't reaced the Permanant Wilting Point, it should recover over the next few hours and stand back up. Remove any leaves that are yellowed or still wilted after the plant has recovered. |
