Description

This delightful genus of colourful perennials from eastern Asia will thrive in most home gardens. Tricyrtis lasiocarpa is a species form that is a strong growing plant with masses of orchid like flowers at the tips of the stems. The leaves spread up the stems in an attractive fashion making it a garden must.

Tricyrtis lasiocarpa has masses of flowers in Autumn. The petals have dark purple spots and a deep blue tint with larger leaves than most other species. It requires a moist but well drained soil in part to filtered sun liking a rich humus soil and is hardy to most frosts. In cooler areas it will need a warm spot to get the best from the flowers. It is easy to grow and will delight even the most brown thumbed gardener. Colourful addition to cut flower arrangements.

Tricyrtis lasiocarpa is a new introduction by Clive Larkman although it has been available to keen gardeners in Europe for many years. It has been selected for the large bluish flowers and it looks great planted with Heuchera
