Baby Bougainvillea
'Bambino bougs'
Bambino Bougs are a range of smaller growing bougainvillea ideally suited to container growing topiary, small hedges and smaller gardens. Calathea 'Medallion' in Shell Pot

The Calathea 'Medallion' boasts amazing patterned leaves with bright purple undersides.

This Calathea needs medium to bright light conditions inside. Ensure to position the plant away from direct sunlight as it will burn the leaves. It prefers well-drained soil, ideally in a warm and humid position. Calatheas are also a pet-friendly non-toxic indoor plant!

Allow soil to dry out very slightly between watering. The Calathea is not super dry-tolerant however it can also drown if the soil is kept very wet. If the leaves appear to curl, are droopy or brown and crispy on the edges, it is likely too dry.

Tricyrtis lasiocarpa

This delightful genus of colourful perennials from eastern Asia will thrive in most home gardens. Tricyrtis lasiocarpa, also known as the toad lily, or hairy toad lily, is a species form that is a strong growing plant with masses of orchid like flowers at the tips of the stems. The leaves spread up the stems in an attractive fashion making it a garden must.

Tricyrtis lasiocarpa has masses of flowers in Autumn. The petals have dark purple spots and a deep blue tint with larger leaves than most other species. It requires a moist but well drained soil in part to filtered sun liking a rich humus soil and is hardy most frosts. In cooler areas it will need a warm spot to get the best from the flowers. It is easy to grow and will delight even the most brown thumbed gardener. Colourful addition to cut flower arrangements.

Tricyrtis lasiocarpa is a new introduction by Clive Larkman although it has been available to keen gardeners in Europe for many years. It has been selected for the large bluish flowers and it looks great planted with Heuchera. Plant under deciduous trees or in a shady spot along with Thalictrum kusianum and a mix of Hosta varieties.

Vanilla Bean (Vanilla planifolia)
Vanilla bean is an attractivew Central American climbing orchid. Under ideal conditions it produces banana like fruit that dry to become vanilla pods.

Dried vanilla pods are used to producethe classic vanilla flavour of desserts and drinks. Ice cream and creamy desserts like panna cotta work best.

The pods need to be cured before use and then the beans can be used whole or made into your own extract. Unsweetened vanilla has many benefits and is reputed to reduce stress, anxiety and blood pressure whilst working as an aphrodisiac.

This is a climbing shrub that likes warm and moist environment, but not wet roots. Prefers rich soils in a warm position with natural light and trellis to climb on. It doesnt tolerate cold conditions. and like high humidity. Indoor only for cold climates such as Melbourne.

The flowers need to be hand pollinated in late winter to early spring.
Part to filterd sun position, frost sensitive, harvest in August to October.
